A HARSH CLIMATE

AN ANCIENT METHOD

A MODERN INTERPRETATION

A harsh climate with bright red soils.

Cala Falcone is the product of diverse soils and landscapes found in Puglia.
Off the Ionian coast of Manduria, the hot Mediterranean climate is cooled by sea breezes and chalky-sandy soils give our Primitivo grapes an excellent source of minerals and complex aromas.
Salento, the extreme tip of Apulia, is instead characterized by the sunny plains of red limestone-clayey soils, which give birth to a grape varietal that isn’t grown anywhere else on Earth, Negroamaro, the crown jewel of our Rosato.

Unique grapes grown with an ancient method.

The negroamaro grapes used in Cala Falcone are unique to Puglia. In order to give a true expression of these grapes and our terrain, we grow them using the vite ad albarello system.
This low-intervention method which has remained unchanged for over 2,500 years and where it was first developed by the Greeks and Romans is characterized by simplicity – no stakes or trellises are involved. The vines are allowed to grow in the shape of a bush, a naturally low-to-the-ground method that enables vines to shade themselves, rather than being structured upward.

A modern interpretation of Puglian rosato wine.

We directly press our grapes proceeded by a temperature controlled fermentation at eighteen degrees Celcius. This is followed by a six-month ageing process in stainless-steel vats. This studied process is what gives Cala Falcone its unique golden colour.
